Make sure you and your business stay safe!
I attended an online course run by #Theaccessgroup last week – scary but very informative.
On line fraud has increased significantly during the pandemic for obvious reasons – we are all using the internet much more, whether it is working from home, online shopping, internet training, banking….the list goes on.
This has given fraudsters a variety of ways to infiltrate either our home life or our businesses, the top 10 scams are identified in brief as:-
- Fake Government emails with links
- “Access to Covid-19 relief funds”- emails
- Council Tax reduction – emails
- Emails offering help in applying for universal credit
- Phishing emails claiming recipient has been in contact with someone diagnosed with Covid-19 – this leads to fake websites which either steal information or infect your device.
- Fake adverts for coronavirus related products
- Emails claiming to be from TV Licensing
- Update your TV subscription services payment details – email request
- Fake social media sites
- Fake investment opportunities.
However, I think the worst scam I have heard about in the last couple of days is a website purporting to be from the NHS offering COVID vaccines but asking for bank details !!
Make sure that you and your staff are up to date with the latest scams, information on how to minimise your risks can be found in The Access Group full article 10 common cyber fraud scams during the covid-19 crisis (theaccessgroup.com) a very informative read.
