Spending a little can achieve a lot!

In many cases, a standard Letter Before Action (LBA), even where it does not strictly follow a formal Pre-Action Protocol, is sufficient to achieve the desired outcome—particularly when it is issued by a Solicitor.

At Lane & Co our experience consistently shows that a clear, concise, and firmly worded letter sent on our letterhead carries significant weight.

Recipients are far more likely to recognise the seriousness of the matter and respond promptly, often without the need for more extensive procedural compliance.

Should the matter not progress following this initial step, the option remains to escalate and issue a fully compliant Pre-Action Protocol letter at a later stage. This staged approach ensures proportionality while preserving all available remedies.

Our website has been developed to assist you (and us) to be able to process your instructions swiftly.  Solicitors Letter Before Action | Lane & Co Debt Recovery Solicitors

We guide you through the process of:-

Understanding who / what your customer is

This is important in ensuring the correct letter / attachments are sent with the LBA and the relevant time scale is given to your customer to respond.

Your information must be completed and the payment terms of your invoices identified, this is usually found either on your invoice or in your Terms and Conditions of Business.

Making sure we have all the information needed to pursue your debtor

Company House Registration number is a critical part of you knowing who your customer is. There are different time scales given to your debtor to make payment depending upon the type of entity they are.

Checking the postcode will ensure that any communication is sent to the correct address reducing the impact of the Debtor stating ‘I never received the LBA’.

Email addresses – the LBA is deemed received when it is sent via email, we are able to provide evidence of date and time it is sent. Providing more than one email address assists us so that in the event of a bounce back or non delivery we are able to try a second or third address. Any LBA that has to be posted will incur a further charge to our Client of £5.00 plus Vat.

The next information collected by our Website is the value and nature of the debt

We ask that you familiarise yourself with the Pre Action Protocols and confirm that whilst understanding the possible implications you wish to proceed with the Standard Letter Before Action.

The type of debt is also very important – there are different regulations depending upon the nature of the debt.

Breakdown of the debt

Finally we ask that you give a breakdown of the debt including date, month and the year.

If you have a statement in excel format that does help us with the processing of the debt.

We ask that you read and accept our Terms and Conditions before submitting the information for processing.

On receipt of the above information you will receive a confirmation email and our specialist team springs into action.

We categorise the information into 3 categories:-

  1. 7 day letters – for limited Companies and LLP’s
  2. 14 day letters – for Local authorities / hospitals / colleges / schools etc
  3. 30 day letters – for Sole Traders / Individuals

Your letter is processed, checked and emailed the same day (if instructions are received before 3.30pm)
